This afternoon I went exploring some of the trails around the nearby horse farm and took a walk down by the river and across the border into the Swiss vineyards. A muddy trip because of the recent rains, but a sunny day to be out. I stopped to read on a stone wall on a quiet road and had a friendly conversation with a French woman out walking her dog. This conversation was almost entirely in French! She was nice enough to speak slowly and repeat things when necessary. I was so excited to be able to answer her questions and talk about the snow in the mountains and hiking and the greening vineyards. Turned out that her English language skills were quite good (despite her modesty), but we stuck with French even after I found this out. And then she said that I was the first American she'd ever met. I thought this was pretty cool.
Then I walked to the grocery store and then home to make dinner. Personal pots of veggie yum in 3, 2, 1...

Congrats on the conversation. You're way past my skills!
